In the past, most people received good, healthy doses of CLA in their diets through the consumption of beef and dairy fats. However, during modern times the way cattle are raised has changed. This change as well as the drastic changes in most people's diets today has lowered the amount of CLA people get from in their diet.

The vast majority of cattle no longer graze in pastures on natural grass and other food, but are fed processed grains and other meat by products! This results in a decrease in cattle's internal production of conjugated linoleic acid, meaning less CLA is consumed from eating meat and dairy products.
